SGC Interview with Professional Mountain Biker and Coach – Caleb Holonko

We caught up with SRAM & Rockshox Athlete Caleb Holonko to ask a few questions about his background and why he decided to join the Coaches and team at Summer Gravity Camps!

Can you tell us a bit about your journey in mountain biking and how you first got involved with Summer Gravity Camps?

My journey in mountain biking has always been rooted in a lifelong passion for getting outside and exploring. Summer Gravity Camps was something I dreamed about attending when I was younger, but at the time I had to choose between hockey camp and bike camp. Hockey was the priority back then, but I was still driven to progress as a rider and trail builder within my community. That dedication eventually led to sponsorships and opportunities that allowed me to travel the world as a professional athlete.
Summer Gravity Camps had been asking me to come coach for a few years, and this past summer the timing finally lined up- it was awesome to join the team!

What’s one of your favourite moments or standout experiences from coaching or riding at Summer Gravity Camps?

One of the biggest take aways for me was watching the campers progress throughout the week. Seeing them learn how to read trails differently, use features creatively, and gain confidence in their riding was incredibly rewarding. Watching technical skills improve and smiles grow was easily the best part.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey in mountain biking and how you first got involved with Summer Gravity Camps?

The camp environment encouraged creativity and pushed me to try new techniques and lines while riding. My mindset has always been about having fun on the bike, and making the most out of every inch of trail—and SGC is the perfect place for that.

What does Summer Gravity Camps represent to you on a personal level—beyond just the riding?

To me, Summer Gravity Camps is the personification of the best summer ever. Being in Whistler, riding the bike park, and spending time at the lakes is pretty magical. It might just be the best place in the world for both campers and coaches.

How do you think the camp fosters growth in young riders and adults, and has coaching benefited you as an established athlete?

Both young riders and adults are placed in an incredibly healthy environment that promotes organic progression- on and off the bike. Whether you realize it or not, you learn something on every single lap at SGC. Even as a professional athlete, I’m still learning right alongside the campers.

If you could give advice to aspiring MTB athletes considering Summer Gravity Camps, what would it be?

My advice would be simple: go for it! Show up for the kids, share your passion, your story, and your sense of humour with an amazing group of campers. It’s an unforgettable experience and so much fun.

What’s next for you with Summer Gravity Camps, and how do you see your future as a professional athlete and coach?

I’d love to come back in 2026 and coach for another week. Being a small part of SGC in 2025 was an absolute blast, and I hope more people get the chance to have an experience like the one I had
